About Jonny
From the Solent to the Superyachts — and Back Home
I've been on the water since I was eight years old, and boats have been my life ever since. What started as racing dinghies on the Solent grew into a 20 year career at sea — from marine engineer and deckhand to First Mate and, eventually, Captain of a 32 metre superyacht cruising the Mediterranean and Scandinavia.
In 2022 I came home to Lymington and joined a local marina and boatyard as a Project Manager, putting that hands-on experience to work ashore.
Now I've taken the next step, coming back across the fence to work for you the client. Utilising my knowledge and understanding to give you the best result.
Whether you're buying your first yacht or your fifth, I'll give you an honest, thorough survey from someone who has lived and worked aboard, managed major refits, and knows exactly what to look for.
His story
Jonny grew up in Lymington, and the sea has always been his home. He started sailing dinghies aged eight on a local lake, raced keel boats through his teenage years, and never really stopped. What began as a childhood passion became a vocation and eventually, a 20-year career that took him from the Solent to the Mediterranean and beyond.
After training as a marine engineer and completing his Yachtmaster in sail and power, Jonny worked his way up through some of the most respected vessels in the superyacht world.
From deckhand on a classic Lymington-based ketch, to Mate and then Captain of S/Y Nariida, a 32-metre Wally 105 operating across the Med and Scandinavia. Along the way he managed annual yard periods in Palma, led a major 10-month refit at Baltic Yachts in Finland, and accumulated deep hands-on knowledge of how yachts are built, how they wear, and where they fail.
In 2022 Jonny returned to Lymington to be with his family and joined a local marina and boatyard as a Project Manager, overseeing refits, pre-sale preparations, and survey-to-completion worklists.
That role sharpened an already well-trained eye and led naturally to the next step: independent marine surveying, helping buyers and owners make informed, confident decisions about their vessels.
When Jonny surveys a boat, you're getting three decades of lived experience, not just a checklist.
“Jonny’s so personable and his attention to detail truly stood out. We’ve already recommended him to others.”
